What is Zlango?
Zlango has
created a new way of writing messages that automatically combines text with an
inspiring set of linguistic icons to transform web and mobile messaging into an
expressive and colorful experience.
Hundreds of
Zlango icons, from three different Themes (icon sets), are mapped to thousands
of words and cover a wide variety of linguistic expression. A user can choose
which theme they want to use, and as the user composes a message using text,
icons which match the words they are writing appear as suggestions which are
then included in the message in place of words. The user can control whether an
icon replaces a word. The resulting messages are fun and juicy, and far more
expressive than plain text.
Supported handsets
Zlango runs
on a wide array of handsets, hundreds in fact, ranging from simple Java feature
phones to native Symbian Series 60 smart-phones. This support page focuses on
the native experience.
Downloading
The Zlango
app is available to most users around the world. A localized version is
available in more than 20 countries. Download is available on this site
and also from leading application outlets.
Creating icon messages
Icon
messages replace plain text with pictures to inject personality into any text
message. You can create a message entirely from icons or add some spice to any
message with an occasional icon here and there.
Select Menu
> Messaging > New message > Icon message
1. In the To field,
select Options > Add recipient to select recipients from your contacts list,
or enter the recipient's mobile phone number.
2. Scroll to the message
field and enter the message text. While you are typing, suggestions for
completing the word being entered will appear together with icons illustrating
those suggestions. You can navigate between suggestions and select one. The
selected icon will then replace the current word text in the body of the
message.
3. To send the message,
you can press the green call key, use the Options > Send command, or use the
Send command on the center ('fire') key.
Themes
The Zlango
application comes pre-equipped with three themes; Classic, Urban &
Gorgeous. Select Options > Select theme > Classic/ Urban/ Gorgeous
Inviting friends
You can
send icon messages to anyone. For friends to reply with icon messages, they
need the Zlango icon messaging application. Use Options > Invite friends (to
invite them to get the Zlango icon messaging application), or just send them a
Zlango icon message and they will receive it together with a download link.
Reading messages
To read a
message, select Menu > Messaging > Inbox.
Scroll to
the message and select Open.
Receiving messages
Messages
are received directly to your icon messaging application. If the message
recipient does not have the application on the handset s/he will receive a text
message with textual rendering of the icon message and a download link.
Accessing Zlango
The app is
either part of the phone's standard messaging or in the phones applications.
Tips
A. Another way to get
icons in your message is to simply type the text and then use the Convert to
icons command available on the Options menu or the Fire key menu. You can use
Undo convert to icons to reverse the effect of this command.
B. If you prefer that
words change into icons automatically as you write them, go to Messaging >
Options > Settings > Icon messaging and change the Composing Style to
Automatic.
C. If you prefer icons in
your message to appear without the words underneath, use Options > Hide
Captions.
D. To call the sender of
the message, press the call key.

Save to Contacts to add the contact information to your
contact list

Message details to view the subject and other information
about the message

Move to folder to save the message in a different folder.
Then scroll to the folder and select OK.
The
available options may vary.
Additional options

Writing Language changes the language of the message text.
Note that you will only see icon suggestions for the writing language in effect
at the beginning of the message text.

Check for update to see if there is a new version of Zlango
available and to download it.

Advanced Settings
Select Menu
> Messaging > Options > Settings > Icon message > and choose
from the following:
o
Short Code to view the phone number via which
icon messages are routed. This is for support purposes only, and can be changed
only with the assistance of a support representative who will supply the
necessary instructions.
o
Display Name to update the name that is sent
along with your icon message. This name appears together with your messages in
several cases:
o
When your message is delivered to users who don't yet have
Zlango icon messaging
o
On the handsets of users who don't have you in their
phonebook
o
On the handsets of some users who have the feature-phone
(Java) version of the Zlango icon messaging client even if you are listed in
their phonebook.
o
Composing Style to change how words are transformed
into icons
o
Manual means that words are transformed
into icons if you manually select one of the icon suggestions displayed at the
bottom of the screen. In addition, the Convert to icons command is available
for you to collectively transform all words for which icons are available. You
can undo Convert to icons to reverse the effects of this command.
o
Automatic means that as you write, each word
with an available icon is automatically transformed into an icon. Icons can be
transformed back into words by using the Clear key.
